Bed Bug Detection Dogs in East York

East York holds some of the densest apartment housing in Toronto. Thorncliffe Park and Crescent Town are among the most heavily occupied residential areas in Canada, with large towers built in the 1960s and 1970s still in continuous rental use. Buildings of that age and density are the most difficult bed bug environment anywhere in the GTA.

Inspections in East York

We inspect apartment suites, houses, rental units and commercial premises across East York, from Leaside and Pape Village through Woodbine Heights, Old East York and Broadview North. For building managers we sweep multiple units in a single visit and report on them together, so you can see whether an infestation is contained or spreading.

In a tower, the reported unit is almost never the only one. Bed bugs travel through shared walls, along service risers and through corridors, so the useful inspection covers the units around the report as well as the report itself.

Availability

Same-week availability across East York, with multi-unit sweeps for building managers usually scheduled within a few days.

Housing in East York

What the buildings here are like.

East York splits sharply. Leaside and Governor's Bridge are detached owner-occupied housing, while Thorncliffe Park and Crescent Town are high-density rental towers from the 1960s and 1970s. The towers are where canine detection earns its cost: dozens of units per floor, shared risers and corridors, and tenants who often cannot afford to replace infested furniture.

What Drives Calls in East York

1960s and 1970s tower stock

Service risers, wall voids and original trim connect units vertically and horizontally in ways that treatment of a single suite cannot address.

Extreme residential density

Thorncliffe Park and Crescent Town concentrate large numbers of households in a small footprint, so spread is fast once established.

Discarded and reclaimed furniture

In dense neighbourhoods, furniture left at the curb is often taken in by another household within hours.

Common Questions

East York specifics.

One tenant reported bed bugs. How many units should I inspect?

At minimum the reported unit and the eight surrounding it, meaning the units either side, above, below and diagonally adjacent. In older towers we often recommend checking the units on the same riser as well, because that is a route treatment does not close.

How long does a suite take?

Fifteen to twenty minutes for a typical one or two bedroom apartment. That pace is what makes checking a dozen units in one visit realistic, where a visual inspection of the same suites would take days.

Can you work in occupied units?

Yes. The dog works on lead, quietly, and most residents find the visit unremarkable. We coordinate access with building management and do not discuss the reason for a visit with other residents.

Do you cover Leaside as well as Thorncliffe Park?

We cover all of East York, including Leaside, Thorncliffe Park, Crescent Town, Pape Village, Woodbine Heights, Old East York and Broadview North.
